Flower Show weekend at Central

The Flower show is a big event in Shrewsbury.

People come from far and wide to see the flowers ,exhibits, stalls and events and listen to the music.

Our Central building is on one of the main routes to the show.

An obvious opportunitY ,therefore,for us to engage with our local community not only by being open for teas, coffee's and cakes, but by doing various things outside the building like giving people the chance to write on a wall the one thing they wanted to do before they die, ( we got some fascinating answers!)

 We  also did face painting , made balloons into animal shapes,and a whole lot of other stuff. Upstairs we held an art exhibition and discovered our versatile building works very well as a gallery among many other things

All these things were great fun and gave us the chance to meet loads of different people,listen to them,and also have some pretty deep and important spiritual conversations with people who we otherwise would not have met. I think the team who did it were tired but exhilarated

A really good weekend was finished by meeting together on Sunday morning at Central for worship

This is not something we will do often on a Sunday morning at Central, but is was good to do  it yesterday

Worship was led by our young people's band which gave our worship band a bit of a rest and wefinished of by sharing lunch together

Not a restful weekend but an inspiring one!

Now looking forward to 3 days of Senior Moments starting Tuesday

August is busy!

The sun has come out ,the temperatures are rising,the school holidays have begun and church life moves into a different phase.
Different but it is just as busy, for even though various ministries have stopped and those that run them are having a well earned break,we still have various projects on the go.

August in particular is a very busy month .In our Central building we have various things going on that relate to the big Flower Show that is such a popular annual event in August, these include an afternoon tea (complete with speaker ) for Senior Citizens,  various children's activities and an art exhibition ,we are hopeful hundreds of local people will come and see these as they go past our building on the way to The Flower Show See here. This is a great opportunity to meet and bless people.

Roy and Mary Ellis are running Senior Moments at Crowmoor  for the second time from 14th -16th August  and I am, hearing bookings are going very well indeed, and many of those booking in are not regular members of our congregation which is great!

Then last but not least there is The Holiday Club. This has been run annually for many years and is hugely enjoyed by those primary school  who come along.
August is therefore not a quiet month but certainly a very exciting one giving us loads of opportunities to engage with local people
I am looking forward to a good month!

The Flower Show

After a week when the media has been packed with news of the dark deeds that human being are capable of ,it was great to go to the Flower Show in Shrewsbury to see that we, who are made in God’s image, are also capable of amazing creativity!



I have always loved these shows and this one in particular for its variety, for its colour, and though people come from far and wide, for its very  local feel.

Over the years it has become less a flower and vegetable show though there is still plenty to admire!

We especially enjoyed these 2 sensory gardens created by local people, and which at the end of the show are going to be given to Hope House  children's hospice and Severndale School respectively .Two places dear to our hearts

A really great day and this time next year  with our new town centre building, we will have thousands of people passing our front doors on the way up to the show .Now there is another opportunity to be creative !
